Welcome to New Ground Psychology.

I’m Tanya Prince, the sole practitioner and a registered clinical psychologist based in Manunda, Cairns. I work with children, youth and adults, providing individual, evidence‑based psychological assessment and support for a range of difficulties that lead to depression, anxiety and stress.
I welcome self-referrals and referrals from General Practitioners, psychiatrist and paediatricians, Employee Assistance Programs, Workcover and other health care professionals. At New Ground I offer formal, evidence-based approaches, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprogramming (EMDR), but also include expressive therapies such as art and sand tray activities, depending on your individual treatment goals and preferences.
About Me...
I am a clinical psychologist who has been practicing in North Queensland for over 24 years. I have worked with adults and young people in many different areas of psychology, including adult and child and youth mental health, education, youth forensic services, sexual health, and general medical services. I have a passion for supporting youth in the Cairns community to overcome mental health, learning and socio-economic barriers and find their way forward. I have extensive experience working with first nations peoples from across North Queensland and aim to create a culturally safe and respectful setting for all my clients, regardless of age, gender or cultural background.
I work with clients to create a sense of comfort and safety where they can move at their own pace toward personal growth and creating meaningful, lasting change.
I also have a strong knowledge of psychological assessment and provide formal assessments and reports for learning and developmental disorders, cognition, and forensic risk assessments.
In my spare time I enjoy attending art classes, gardening, camping, and exploring the lovely beaches and creeks in our northern tropical paradise!

Psychological Assessment:

The identification of learning and neurodevelopmental difficulties in school age children is essential to support effected young people to stay confident and engaged in their learning.

I have extensive experience in the neuropsychological assessment of cognitive, developmental, and specific learning disorders, including Dyslexia and ADHD for both young people and adults.

I provide individualised Comprehensive Psychological Reports for schools, General Practitioners, and courts. Costs are calculated based on individual needs determined through initial clinical interviews.
